When trying to tell if the first month was near, we needed to look for the barley and the new moon. Once the new moon is seen and the barley (first fruits) is in the ear (ripe/tender), then you know that it is the first of the month. Some say that you don't need to look for the sign of the barley, however, according to the law Lev. 23:9-14, YHWH commands that a sheaf of the first fruits of your harvest shall be offered as a wave offering. Remember Abib in hebrew is 'Aw-beb' which means a 'young ear of grain.' This is what would be considered your first fruit of your barley harvest.
Then from evening to evening you want to count down to the 10th day so you can get your lamb and then you want to also, count down to the 14th day so, that you may keep the Passover that evening and the Feast of Unleavened Bread.
The primary observance of Pesach is because of the Exodus from Egypt after generations of slavery in Egypt/Mizraim, Exodus 1-15 explains the story. The meaning of Pesach is to pass through, to Passover, to exempt or to spare. YHWH heard Israel cry and appointed Moses to the Pharaoh and commanded that the Pharaoh "LET HIS PEOPLE GO" When Pharaoh refused to let Israel go YHWH sent upon Egypt ten plagues destroying everything. When the tenth plague came around YHWH killed all the firstborn in Egypt but speared the life of the Israelites by commanding them to put the blood of the lamb on the door post of their houses so that when he seen the blood, he would Passover, therefore YHWH referred to the lamb as the Passover Exo. 12:21
Paul even touched on leavening and compared it to malice and wickedness.
Leavening is a substance used in doughs and batters that causes them to rise. Below are leavening agents found in a variety of foods and other things, that must be used up or removed, before the Feast of Unleavened Bread.

1 Corinthians 5:6-8 “Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even HaMashiach, our Passover, is sacrificed for us: Therefore, let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.”
In order to understand what exactly is going on here, we first must examine why Paul said this? The First Epistle to the Corinthians is about Paul hearing reports about the Corinthian assembly. He was hearing that they were full of pride, evil, iniquity, wickedness, and adultery. When he touched on “purging out the old leaven,” there were many approving of an immoral relationship. Paul was addressing what to do with the brother, who was a part of the immoral relationship. Paul told them to put the wicked person out of the assembly, so that the assembly can be renewed, because they were unleavened, however, the brother was making the assembly leavened because of his wickedness. This goes back to what HaMashiach was speaking about in Matthew 15:18-20, when he said, “out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies, these are the things which defile a man.”
Therefore, to the best of our ability, let’s get rid of the leaven that is within us, because this will help in circumcising the foreskin of our hearts. Let’s work on the renewing of the spirit.
On the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the Creator: for seven days we are to eat unleavened bread (Exodus 12:14-17). One of the observances related to Passover involves avoiding leaven/chametz. This was regarding the Israelites leaving Egypt/Mizraim in a hurry, because they did not have time to let their bread rise so they baked unleavened cakes of dough, (Exodus 12:39). All leaven/ chametz are to be out of your house from the first day to the seventh day as well, including things made with chametz, Exodus 12:15, Exodus 12:18-20, Deuteronomy 16:4. Chametz that have been allowed to ferment and "rise". Includes anything made from the five major grains (wheat, rye, barley, oats and spelt) that has not been completely cooked within 18 minutes after coming into contact with water. The night before Passover its best to do a formal search for leaven/chametz in your dwellings and to clean all surfaces that may have come in contact with leaven/chametz.

Feast of Unleavened Bread
The Barley is in the ear means: 'aw-beb,' Strong: #H24; Orig: from an unused root (meaning to be tender); green, i.e. a young ear of grain; hence, the name of the month Abib or Nisan:--Abib, ear, green ears of corn (not maize).
The Flax was bolled means: 'gibol,' Strong: #1392; Orig. meaning a bud
You can do work that only pertains to preparation of the Passover/ Feast of Unleavened Bread the first day and the seventh day, but it prohibits you from doing occupational work the 1st day and the seventh day (Deuteronomy 16:8).

Make your own Unleavened Bread
In Torah we have discovered that during The Passover/ Feast of Unleavened bread, leavening is to be removed from our homes. However, spiritual leavening of the heart must also be removed NOT only during the appointed times, but this should be something that we should practice daily, since we are to be a Royal Priesthood and a light unto the nations, 1Peter 2:9; Isaiah 42:6; Matthew 5:14-16.
This Is The Ordinance of The Passover:
“Three times thou shalt keep a feast unto me in the year”
Exo. 23:14 and17; Deut.16:16-17
In Matthew 16:6 HaMashiach gives warning of the leavening of the Pharisees and Sadducees and In Matthew 23:1-3, he tells the multitude and his disciples to respect them due to their position of authority but not to emulate them because they do not practice what they preach. Then in Matthew 16:11-12, HaMashiach compared leaven to the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees, because he knew in their teachings they added to Torah, which caused great confusion amongst the people, because it caused the people to question the word of The Highest. According to Torah, we are commanded by YHWH not to add to his word or take away from his word, Deut. 4:2; Duet. 12:32; Rev. 22:18-19. So, first HaMashiach gives a warning and then he compared their teachings to leaven. So, now if we go to read Luke 12:1 HaMashiach tells us that the leaven is their Hypocrisy, which is the hypocrisy in their teaching. Therefore, they were full of leaven and this caused great confusion within their teachings. These men had uncircumcised hearts, which is, what YHWH asked the Israelites to circumcise.
Jeremiah 17:9, tells us, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” Matthew 15:18-20 tells us, “But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashed hands defileth not a man.” These traits that HaMashiach listed are revealed from an uncircumcised heart. YHWH speaks about the nation of the Israelites having an uncircumcised heart and how he would like for us to circumcise the foreskin of our hearts and be no more stiff-necked, Duet. 10:16. The Highest reminds the Israelites again, in Jeremiah 4:4, to circumcise yourselves and take away the foreskin of your heart: lest his fury come forth like fire, because of your evil doings. The Highest knew that the Israelites were very stiff neck, as he continued to use Jeremiah as a vessel to get his warnings across to the nation of the Israelites, He asked the question, “Whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may HEAR? Behold, their EAR is UNCIRCUMCISED, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of YHWH is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it,” Jeremiah 6:10. This scripture sounds just like the Pharisees and Sadducees, it was as if their Ear was UNCIRCUMCISED and they could not hearken to the word of YHWH, they found no delight in doing it. So, they had rather just leaned on their own understanding, which caused a clash between HaMashiach and them. They revealed to HaMashiach that their hearts were uncircumcised and full of leaven/hypocrisy.
Passover, known as Pesach, is the first celebration of the feast day that takes place in early spring starting at evening on the 14th day (Exo. 12:6; Lev. 23:4) going into the 15th (Lev. 23:6-8), in the month of Abib. In
Exo. 12:2, Exo.34:18, Deut. 16:1 he lets us know that the first month was called the month of Abib and how we are to keep the Passover in this month. According to, thus saith YHWH, you are to get the lamb on the 10th day (Exo. 12:3) and you shall keep it up until the 14th day of the same month and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening Exo. 12:6. They are to eat the flesh that night, roast with fire, with unleavened bread and bitter herbs, eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof, and you shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning you shall burn with fire. Thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is YHWH passover. (Exo. 12:8-11)
A sign that Abib is near?
In the Strong's Hebrew Concordance it has #H24 which is אָבִיב 'aw-beb.'
'Aw-beb' means a young ear of grain, to be tender, and green. This should let us know that the word Abib (aw-beb) is telling us the state that the crop (barley) is in and during that time we find YHWH calling referring to that how it was the first month when the crop was seen. When we read Exo. 9:31-32 it states:
" And the flax and the barley was smitten: for the barley was in the ear (tender,green, young grain), and the flax was bolled (bud). But the wheat and the rie were not smitten: for they were not grown up."
This is letting us know that, during the time of the 7th plague that the barley was in the ear and that the flax was bolled, when it was smitten by the 7th plague (hail).
